Bothan Mòr is located in Cornaigmore in the north west of the island near to the school and opposite Wild Diamond watersports and a short walk from Loch Bhasapol where they operate many of their windsurfing and other water sport activities.

A cosy summerhouse, it is adjacent to the owners house Lag Nan Cruach, sharing its large decking area with three hammocks, a large picnic table and sun chairs. There is also a large grass garden, which has a second open air decking area to enjoy on the calmer sunnier days, or which makes a perfect spot for late night stargazing. New in 2019 - POOL! See below! A 100m drive links to a nearby road by which you can reach the nearest of a great many of Tiree’s wonderful beaches in a 20m walk. By car or bike the town of Scarinish (where you can find the Co-op, bank, Post Office and the Scarinish Hotel and Bar) is about 5.5 miles away. The local community shop at Crossapol is 4 miles away.

ACCOMMODATION 

GROUND FLOOR

The ground floor comprises of an open-plan lounge/kitchen area with a corner shower/WC room.

Lounge - Two leather sofas complement a rustic wooden table, an electric fireplace for heating, a television as well as a selection of games. Towards the kitchen is a breakfast bar with seating, with a coffee machine and audio system. The lounge benefits from a south facing patio door providing sunshine on good days as well as more direct access to the decking area.

Kitchen - The small kitchen area includes an oven, sink, microwave, kettle and toaster, complete with basic utensils and cookware, mugs, etc. We provide some basic kitchen cupboard supplies and there will be a supply of tea/coffee/etc to welcome you.

Shower Room / WC - In addition to the usual toilet facilities there is a shower cabinet fitted with an electric power shower. Some towels are provided but larger groups are advised to also bring their own, especially if you will be using them frequently.

FIRST FLOOR

Bedroom 1 - At the top of the staircase, this double bedroom has a south facing window overlooking the deck area with a view across Cornaigmore up the gently sloping hill. A bedside cabinet is provided plus a set of drawers for storage.

Bedroom 2 - Occupying the middle of the roof space, this single room has a west facing window with a view across the field towards Loch Bhasapol. A bedside cabinet, drawers and a clothing rack is provided.

Bedroom 3 - At the end of the landing, this north facing double bedroom has a view over the garage towards the nearby Kirk, with distant views of the impressive breaking waves at the beach in nearby Balephetrish. A bedside cabinet and drawers are provided.

A set of bedding is provided for each room, with additional bedding available for longer stays or if required.

FACILITIES AND SERVICES

Laundry facilities, if required, are shared with the main house and accessed via the nearby door, and there are drying lines in the garden.

Guests are welcome to make use of the decking area and garden, where you may see some of the four cats that live with the owners at the main house. Private use for a particular occasions can be requested, as well as the use of the barbeque and hammocks. Garden furniture is available, and there is a sheltered area of decking enclosed by fence for the windier days Tiree can be known for. We have a high-quality large gas BBQ which guests are welcome to use, positioned on the deck near the patio entrance to Bothan Mòr.

NEW IN 2019 - SWIMMING POOL! - We now have a metal frame above-ground swimming pool which will be assembled during the warmer months. The pool has a solar panel heating system (though be prepared for it to still be pretty brisk!) and is 18ft long, positioned right next to the decking area. While usage cannot be guaranteed, guests are welcome to use it when it is in operation.

Electricity is included in the price of rental and there is high speed broadband internet available over Wi-fi. The television in the accomodation has an Amazon Fire stick for streaming services, through which conventional TV channels can be accessed as well as Prime Video, or your own Netflix account, etc

There is parking space available within grounds for vehicles, and bicycles and other equipment can be stored in the garage if needed.

We have an external socket for electric car charging at the house which is free for guests to use, and charging points are available on the road to Oban so feel free to bring your EV to the island.

During most bookings assistance with any issues as well as advice about the island is available from the main house – otherwise contact details will be provided.

Mobile reception can be limited on Tiree but a new mast was recently installed about a mile away which provides 4G coverage for users of the EE network (note, only EE itself, not secondary networks that use it). There is some coverage for O2 and Vodaphone customers via a mast on the next island but it can be patchy at our side of Tiree.

DIRECTIONS TO THE HOUSE

From the ferry terminal follow the road, then turn right at the T-junction in Scarinish. Follow the main road round the island, past the pink house in Kirkapol, and keep going until you pass through Balephetrish. Continue west to Cornaig, passing the turnoff to Cornaigbeg and on into Cornaigmore. When you reach the crossroads turn left, passing the old kirk. You will see Lag Nan Cruach and Bothan Mòr ahead on the right, and should turn in through the gate (which will need to be kept closed when cows are grazing the field) just opposite the white building where Wild Diamond is based.

OUTSIDE SPACE AND PARKING

There is a wide drive space within the gate on the grounds of the house which is used by the main house for one car with adequate space for one, perhaps two vehicles, but a second vehicle can be parked a short way down the drive if more convenient for access.

RESTRICTIONS

No smoking is permitted in any part of the house or grounds. Generally pets are not permitted (service animals are fine) - contact us with queries about this. We ask that noise levels be kept reasonable in the evenings on school nights, particularly in the outdoor areas. Stated rates are for standard bookings of the week starting and ending on Sunday - bookings that don't conform to this changeover day are subject to availability and compatibility with other bookings and rates offered may vary.
