Ceabhar Back

Self Catering Sandaig

Ceabhar - overlooks beautiful western shores of Tiree and is located in the peaceful village of Sandaig. Quiet and remote.

We are a short walk from some of the most beautiful unspoiled beaches in the UK. The shoreline below Cèabhar is full of interesting little rocky outcrops and sandy coves. As it is so remote the area is regularly visited by a diverse range of wildlife.

It is a traditional single story longhouse enclosed within a small garden on the common grazing. The name Cèabhar is Gaelic for “a fine breeze”, which seems very appropriate for Tiree. Although the alternative meaning of Cèabhar is “a case of slight intoxication” so if you love quiet white sand beaches, turquoise sea crashing on rocky deserted coves, come and discover the reason for our intoxication with Tiree our home.

Twin Bedroom - Twin Beds, with large bathroom, shower toilet across the hall

There are two sofa beds, one in the lounge and one in the dining room.

We will provide fresh linen, tea towels, washing up liquid and bin bags each week. Sorry towels are not provided.

The guesthouse is situated next door to our licensed restaurant and you are welcome to book tables there any night we are open. Please do this in advance during peak season, especially if it is a large group as the restaurant is often fully booked a week or more in advance.

From the ferry - follow the pier road to the T junction and turn left through Scarinish. Stay on this road for approx 4 miles going through Crossapol and past the junction for the airport. You will come to another T junction where you need to turn right and then follow the road around a sharp left bend. Stay on this road for approx 3 miles. You will pass Heylipol Church at a crossroads, but just keep going straight on through Barrapol and then around a sharp right bend. Just keep going for another half mile and Ceabhar is the first property on the left. The guesthouse is next door to the restaurant inside a walled garden with a big white gate.

In the back garden of the house and under the shed porch there are gear washing tubs, drying racks for wetsuits and plenty hanging facilities for gear. There is also a large shed that we have partitioned a space for storage of bikes and yet more gear drying space. (as watersports enthusiasts we apprciate the importance of dry wetsuits!!!) You will also find a small freezer in the shed for the ice when chilling after a great session.

The open sand dune pasture land around Cèabhar is known as ‘Machair’, a unique Hebridian environment that is protected for it’s ecological value. It is also an important resting spot for migrating birds and a nursery for groups of breeding birds in the spring and full of colourful wild flowers such as yellow rattle, Irish Lady’s Tresses and various Orchids. We welcome considerate visitors who respect this environment.

We are pet friendly and dogs are very welcome in the guesthouse and gardens, but please don’t allow them on the furniture, and they will also need to make friends with Pippin the resident pest control officer (cat) who has adopted us!

Please note that we are situated on open grazing land where sheep, lambs, cows and calves wander freely, so dogs must be kept under control at all times. We are however happy to discuss your pet requirements.

Please note that due to our remote location. We strongly recommend that visitors bring transport so that they can explore the entire island, or be sufficiently fit to explore on foot or cycle. Although Tiree is small, we are in a very isolated environment and it is a long walk to the other attractions on the island.

The guesthouse is single story, sadly though at this point, due to its construction it is not suitable for people using wheelchairs.
