Drovers Cottage Back

Self Catering Barrapol

Drovers is one of a few traditional Scottish thatched cottages remaining on Tiree.

"Where Hobbits go to holiday."

The cottage has thick stone walls, small deep set windows and a marram grass thatched roof; creating a truly cozy atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Primroses and other flowers brighten up the roof edging and the garden.

Lapwings, hares and a multitude of other wildlife are frequent visitors in the spring and can be viewed closely and quietly from a small bench on the south end of the cottage.  You may even catch a glimpse of the Corncrake or hear its characteristic call.

Drovers overlooks Loch a’ Phuill, one of Tiree’s nature reserves and towards the cliffs of Kenavara, where fulmars, kittiwakes, razorbills and guillemots nest. Sanding beach is a just mile walk from Drovers through crofts and Machair.

Kitchen/Living - Cozy and quaint, with everything you need to escape the bustle of everyday day life in comfort. There is a electric cooker, oven, microwave and a fridge. There is a TV/DVD and CD player and wifi. After a busy day exploring, curling up by the warmth of the fire is the perfect way to end the day.

Coal is not always provided but can be if requested in advanced. It is asked that if there is a fresh coal bag/kindling/fire lighters in the house and you use it, you replace it. Coal can be found at Crossapol farm, the fuel station near the ferry terminal or at the MacKinnons “The Big Shed” in Balephetrish. Its around £8 for a bag, which should last a week.

Double Bedroom - Lovely wood panelled and stone bedroom with a morning view out of the window. You will be provided with bed linen and towels. When the wind bites, the electric blanket makes for a perfect cozy lie in or toasty nights sleep. It is asked that guests to strip the bed completely prior to departure to help our cleaner.

Bathroom - There is a powerful walk-in shower with plenty of hot water, wash basin, toilet and washing machine. Towels are provided.

Shops can be found in Scarinish and Crossapol, and a RBS branch in Scarinish. There are numerous attractions across the island and more information can be found on the Discover Tiree website
