Coig Bhalla Back
Coig Bhalla is located beside Vaul Bay and is a newly built house on the site of a ruined croft.
The layout of the house mimics the linear arrangement seen elsewhere on the island, and has been built to copy the original croft based on historic photos.
The stone from the original ruin has been incorporated in the new walls. The house has the external features of the traditional Tiree blackhouses, with luxurious accommodation inside. It has a very low carbon footprint with renewable energy (air source heat pump) supplying both the domestic hot water and the underfloor heating. The house is a stone’s throw from the sea and there are stunning views towards Skye and the small isles. On a clear day the Outer Hebrides can be seen. Seals, basking sharks, otters and corncrakes can often be seen or heard around the house and the bay as well as many different seabirds.
Open Plan Living/Kitchen/Dining - One end of the house is a large open room with kitchen, dining and lounge facilities. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a solid fuel stove.
At the other end of the house are :
Double Bedroom - windows to the front (sea view) and rear. There is a spacious built-in cupboard.
Twin Bedroom - with bunkbed and built-in cupboard.
Shower Room - fully tiled with powerful shower.
Upstairs - comfortable "snug" which can be used as sleeping area, and an additional WC.
