There are a small number of sign-posted footpaths on Tiree. There is also general walking access to fenced and unfenced land in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access code.

Throughout the summer there are guided walks on Thursday afternoons.
The programme of walks for 2020 is below.

A full programme of walks for 2020 is available as a PDF download at the foot of this page. The programme will also be available as a printed brochure from the Trust Office at Crossapol.

Tiree Walks - Twelve Walks Through an Island Landscape

A new book of 12 popular walks is now available from the Tiree Ranger
and a number of shops on the island.

The twelve walks in the book have been carefully chosen to give a taste of what’s special about this small Hebridean island. Some of the walks take in favourite beaches and destinations such as Balephuil, Balevullin and The Maze, The Ringing Stone and Happy Valley - others encourage the walker to explore less well-known parts of the island such as Caolas, Greenhill and Hough. Each walk takes you through a range of different habitats from coastal strand to machair and sliabh. Each walk is accompanied by a clear map, a detailed description of the route and wildlife notes outlining what you may be able to see during the walk at different times for the year

In the meantime everyone can enjoy walking on the island under the outdoor access rights established in 2003. The main features of these rights and responsibilities are:
Everyone has the statutory right of access, access rights apply to all land and inland waters, unless excluded, access rights are for outdoor recreation, crossing land and water and for some educational and commercial purposes, exercising access rights, and managing access land, must be done responsibly.

Access rights don't extend to:
Being on or crossing land for the purpose of doing anything which is an offence, any form of motorised recreation or passage - except by people with a disability vehicle, anyone responsible for a dog which is not under proper control, anyone taking away anything from the land for a commercial purpose.
