There has been a full-time Ranger on Tiree since August 2010 funded jointly by Tiree Community Development Trust, Nature Scot and Discover Tiree.
Our current Ranger was appointed in November 2019 and her responsibilities are to safeguard and promote the island’s environment by implementing the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Her duties include running the Croft Camping Scheme by welcoming and advising the drivers of camper vans, motor homes and caravans to make sure that they are informed of the need to protect the sensitive machair and wildlife. The Ranger is also responsible for liaising with visitors and the community and evolving natural heritage activities, including working with Tiree's school. Other areas include disabled access, guided walks, off-road parking and reporting news in our island newsletter, An Tirisdeach and via the Ranger Social Media channels.
RANGER EVENTS
Throughout the year our Ranger runs a number of different events and activities such as the increasingly popular Otter Spotter walks.
Other activities including learning to identify seaweed and birds as well as running family-friendly activities such as rock-pooling and bug hunting. The Ranger also runs regular volunteering sessions. To find out more or to book an activity please email
