About the property

Modern, light filled, home with wonderful views over the Machair.

Liathach is a new property built around the ruins of the old Mission Hall, with accommodation for 4 adults. It has just been completed, and offers an excellent location to enjoy the fabulous watersports found at Balevullin Beach.
The high ceilinged, open-plan, living, dining, cooking space makes for a relaxed social area. The large triple glazed windows have lovely views out over the common grazing, to the distant sea. The house is flooded with natural light, and you can usually find a wee sunshine spot to enjoy reading your book!

The main bedroom has a double bed, with views out over the common grazing land.
Upstairs features a curved wooden ceiling, and within this open space are two single beds. Velux windows (with black-out blinds) make this a light filled space with views out towards the distant sea, and on a clear day you can see Ben More on Mull.

On entering the property, there is plenty of space to hang coats etc. The main living area is an open plan, high ceilinged space, with lots of natural light. Large windows look out onto the surrounding grazing land, and across to Ben Hough and the distant sea. On a clear day you are sometimes rewarded with views to the Outer Hebrides! There is a modern kitchen with all the usual appliances (electric oven, induction hob, kettle, toaster and microwave) with dining space and soft seating. It's a relaxed space where you feel close to the outside with the large triple glazed windows. With underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, this modern home provides a cosy haven.

Also on the ground floor is the main double bedroom, with standard double bed. The spacious shower room with shower, toilet, teak vanity unit and heated towel rail is also on the ground floor. Upstairs, there is a further bedroom space, carpeted, with two single beds. (Please note that this room does not have a closing door, and has an opening to the living space downstairs)

Parking for two cars, within the fenced area. There is a large shed with extra "beach shower" and toilet. Plenty of extra storage area in heated shed, with ample space to store bikes/ surf boards etc.and dry out wetsuits!
There is a washing machine and old fashioned pulley for drying clothes.

The original, thick walls of the old Mission Hall/ School house provide some shelter as a courtyard seating area with outside table and bench seating.

Sunsets can also be enjoyed from the small wooden deck, via the patio door from the indoor seating area.

Washing line available for guest use.

    Local area

Balevullin beach can be found 1km over the common grazing ground. Wonderful sandy beach which is very popular for surfing.
'Blackhouse watersports' have a beach hut on the beach here, offering surf board and wetsuit hire, as well as lessons. Wonderful sunsets can be enjoyed from this beach in the summer months.
Nearby is Loch Bhasapol, where 'Wild Diamond' is located and they offer equipment hire and lessons for windsurfing, surfing and SUP. This inland loch is a great place to learn to windsurf, as it is shallow and secure.

    Guestbook reviews

Just back from a few days on Tiree. It's difficult not to enjoy time on this island, but staying at Liathach was the icing on the cake!
A very stylish home with fantastic light and views to the sea. We could see Barra and the Western Isles on one of our mornings from the kitchen.
It's only a 10 min walk to Balevullin beach or 2 by bike.
The house was cosy with it's underfloor heating and plenty of hot water for showers after dips in the sea.
There was everything you would expect in a modern kitchen including large fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and oven.
The house was immaculately clean but felt homely with its large open plan living.
    A 5 star stay on a 5 star island!
Thank you Colin and and Fiona
